Specializing in Recurrent/Initial King Air Training

Our simulator is a state of the art FAA approved Redbird AMS full motion AATD dedicated King Air simulator. We have the option of operating it as a K350I or K90 GTI equipped with a Proline avionics suite. We have set up the sim in a way that allows close interaction with the instructor as would be the case at a part 142 school. Our simulator is equipped with control loading for a more realistic feel in flight. It is also equipped with a CORVUS system that allows pilots to interface their personal devices and FOREFLIGHT geolocated with the simulation during the training event.

Our simulator has three axis of motion along with 6 large screens that wrap around the cockpit providing for a fantastic flight simulation experience that is about as real as it gets without ever leaving the ground. This aircraft is configured with a “Flight Management System” (FMS) that gives pilots the choice of using automation such as the autopilot for approaches or simply “hand flying”.

FAA Safety Team (FAAST) member Capt John Andersen presenting lecture topic "The Aging Pilot & Proficiency" at Solar Turbines in San Diego August 2024.

Thank you for your interest in Modern Flight. Chief Pilot John Andersen has dedicated his life to flight safety and instruction. Starting off as a CFI and later becoming a pilot for a part 135 freight operator flying BE99’s, John eventually found his way to the majors with UPS. At UPS, John excelled as an instructor in the UPS Training Center and was both a simulator and aircraft check/training Instructor. John always used what was learned from line operations to create practical simulator scenarios that enhanced airline and flight crew safety. As a Chief pilot and line instructor/check airman, John continued to work with the Training Center and FAA to ensure that potential safety issues experienced in operations were adequately evaluated, communicated, and incorporated into training.

Along with a CFII and MEI rating, John holds a Master’s Degree in Aviation from Embry-Riddle University along with a Doctorate in Business Administration. John was the Chair and Chief Instructor of San Diego Christian College (SDCC.edu) Aviation program and he also teaches aviation courses for several University Aviation programs along with being an “FAA Safety Team (FAAST) CFI facilitator. These opportunities have enabled John to continue his passion of helping pilots achieve their professional goals both in the classroom and aircraft.

We hope you will allow us the opportunity to assist you in achieving your aviation goals.

“Flight safety is all about “relentless professionalism” in everything we do on every flight. All the aircraft experience in the world is of little value if don’t do the basics and pay attention to the details.”

The way Training should always be!!!!!!!!

August 31, 2024

After 3 type ratings and multiple recurrent training sessions with several decades of flying it was refreshing to have an instructor who has years of actual experience in the aircraft they are training you on. But the most important part of our training was John’s genuine concern and care for his student and their needs as to training on the plane.

Best Instructor I've Ever Had!

April 14, 2024

John is by far the best instructor I could ask for. He has a way of gently guiding you to a very high level of mastery of systems and ADM. As seasoned and experienced as he is, he always stays very humble and keeps the most level head and positive attitude out of anyone I’ve flown with. You can tell when someone truly loves what they do and wants others to succeed – and that’s exactly how I’d describe John and his training. He’s my one and only go-to CFII for currency training and BFRs & IPCs now.

Training Experience with John was Exceptional!

April 3, 2024

Second year in a row I’ve had John as a ground/sim instructor – another exceptional experience. Been training on King Airs, Beechjets and Citations for twenty-plus years and John’s systems knowledge and presentation are on par or better than “the big two” deliver. The simulator isn’;t old and tattered (like so many) and delivers exceptional real world graphics to complement the flight profiles.

Always enjoyable training with John!

March 20, 2024

I’ve been flying King Airs and have completed my recurrent training at all the big facilities over the last 16 years. My last 2 recurrents have been with John as my instructor and I have to say that I now look forward to my annual training. His vast King Air knowledge is shared without the usual mind numbing data but with current incidents and accidents that fold right in to engaging discussions that roll right in to the systems that we need to review. It really is a much more effective way of teaching. He’s great to work with!
